On March 8, ITB Berlin 2017 opened the doors of the World Tourism Fair ITB Berlin. We were able to celebrate the opening of this fair and to map out news from the field of air transport.
Airline companies have been exaggerating this year for news release. Emirates planned to introduce an enhanced bar in the A380, Air New Zealand planned to introduce a new business class cabin. The strike was supposed to be a breakthrough in Qatar Airways. Lost shots and shouts on various aerospace and hacking forums have indicated that an airline with its home port in Doha is planning to introduce a brand new concept for the business class cabin.
The festive performance was scheduled for 11:00, accompanied by an artistic ballet performance. Approximately one hundred journalists, including bloggers from around the world, have paid attention when Qatar Airways Chairman, His Majesty Akbar Al Baker, revealed the curtain and introduced QSuite. The slogan is First in Business and clearly captures what QSuite brings to travelers. It brings them comfort that only first-class passengers have experienced so far, and only with some carriers.
QSuite in Qatar Airways provides closed cubicles, flexible cubicles for passenger passengers and last but not least the opportunity to create private space for four passengers. But let’s have a look at the show and introduce the cubicle for individuals.
Their design is the same as in the Airbus A350 business class, respectively Boeing 787 based on high-quality materials and earthy shades in combination with firm dark-colored color.
QSuite’s second configuration is a pair of middle seats that can be easily interconnected. This creates space for a conversation with a passenger. Because QSuite is equipped with a lie-flat seat, in this case a comfortable double bed is created. As Akbar Al Baker humorously remarked at the press conference, it’s a great opportunity for partners to enjoy a long joint flight;)
A brand new configuration in business segment is a 4-passenger configuration. Along with the attached photos, you have a rough idea of this novelty. The ability to hold a meeting, including the possibility of conducting a conference call during a flight, is not a feature that we would often see in the offer of other airlines.
Qatar Airways will not follow the steps of other airlines and does not introduce a concept that will be available in a few years. QSuite should be deployed already in June this year on the Doha-London route. Later lines will be added to Paris and New York.
The curiosity is that 42 seats in the new configuration occupy the same area as the 42 existing seats. This means that Qatar Airways is doing much more comfort and quality on the same floor surface. Due to the different hull width, the new seats will be gradually installed into all 45 Boeing 777 aircraft. Relatively new Boeing 787s, which Qatar Airways has in their fleet of 30 units, will get a brand new business classroom over the course of a few years. 6 Airbus A380 due to the specific shape of the cabin will not be rebuilt and equipped with QSuite. However, a special business class configuration is also required for this type.
Interestingly, Qatar Airways is not going to be a way of creating a premium premium class section. However, the design of the brand new cabin of the economy class will be presented in the coming years.
