New premium economy class at Austrian Airlines

Austrian Airlines (AUA) presented a new product – a premium tourist class on September 5th. As reported by the board of directors of the airline last year, the company’s fleet consisting of Boeing 767 (6 units) and Boeing 777 (5 units) will gradually be modified during the winter to be available on long-haul flights from spring 2018 to offer more travel convenience at an affordable price. The first Boeing 767 flew to modernization yesterday. AUA plans to expand its fleet by another long-haul aircraft early next year – this will already be equipped with a new premium class.

The total value of the investment is approximately 15 million EUR. From a cost-saving perspective, the product will be based on the same seating as the Lufthansa parent introduced in the autumn of 2014. ZID’s seats will be equipped with an electrical socket designed to charge electrical devices such as a laptop and a USB port to charge mobile phones and tablets. A touch screen with a diagonal of 12 inches will make the most of pleasant flights to distant destinations. The distance between the seats will be 97 cm, while the standard class offers a distance of 76 centimeters. The premium economy class will be in Boeing 767 in 3 rows in the 2-2-2 seat configuration. The space was created by the abolition of 10 places in business and 18 in a tourist class. In the case of Boeing 777, there will be 3 sets of seats in the 2-4-2 configuration, and 10 seats of the commercial and 20 seats of the touring class have to be released.

Austrian Airlines’ premium economy class is not just a seat – it’s a comprehensive product that offers travelers premium comfort at an affordable price. In the case of a ticket, passengers are entitled to 2 pieces of luggage, each weighing up to 23 kg. The menu of meals will be different from meals served in the tourist class.
