When the invitation from the Flughafenfreunde Wien, which is a civic association operating at Schwechat Airport, called Photo Safari, I did not even think that we would find myself standing with my camera next to runway at Vienna Airport – wow.
On arrival before the Visitair Center, we boarded the decked deck bus and headed for a fire station. Of course, there was a brief security where we could not get stuck under the scanner and we went back to the bus.
On arrival at the Fire Station 2, the station commander talked about their technique and how they worked. There are 2 stations in Schwechat to ensure fast enough intervention in the event of an accident or other incident.
After the lecture, we stood in front of the station where we were waiting in spacious dedicated spotting place, where we could slowly reach the passing planes after the taxi. Sunny weather, minimal distance from aircraft … what more can a spotter want? Only if the heathhaze is not for the first two hours it was the pain to shoot for longer distances.
So after 3 hours and airplanes like Asiana Cargo (747), Turkish Airlines (A330), Pegasus (737), LOT (EMB190), Korean (777), Baltic (735), Brussels A319, Qatar 787 Dreamliner, , Finnair (A320), China Southern Cargo (777F), Jet2 (737), and A310 Tarom bonus, we went back to the mall and we went back to the Visitair Center and from there home.
I believe we will repeat a similar action again, even though it is clear to me that it will almost certainly not happen at our biggest airport (BTS-LZIB – Bratislava). Because for some reason simply, they can not and 100 other different reasons. Or am I wrong?
