Cargo Aircraft as the Future of Air Transport?

You’ve probably seen pictures of Boeing 747 from the 70’s. Elegant couples sitting in spacious seats, bar stools and comfortable sofas. Looking at the current configuration of airplane cabins, especially in the tourist class, no one pays the eye. Apart from the ticket prices in relation to the average earnings, the difference in comfort is significant.

We moved on to airplanes, playing a role every centimeter of space, and regularly appearing concepts based on a “half-seat” seat configuration in the media.

Fortunately, there are always courageous designers and designers who try to bring gliding and comfort to the aircraft. These include the A3 start-up people under the wing of the Airbus consortium. Designers have visited IKEA store, purchased trendy furniture, wrapping materials, and food dispensers. They went into designing the modular layout of aircraft interiors. Their proposal is based on containers (blocks) reminiscent of containers for cargo shipments. They designed containers with classic seats, hygienic facilities, a kitchenette, a minibar, a working area, containers with beds, etc

How would travel with such an aircraft take place? Upon arriving and leaving the passengers, unnecessary containers would be selected and vice versa – the containers required for the next flight would be carried on board. So it is not a problem to flexibly change the full-economy configuration to a comfortable long distance flight in a full-business configuration, including work-ready and relaxing spaces.

This is a draft concept. At this time of cost optimization, we can not expect this new model to be deployed soon. However, it is possible to assume that parts will be used by airlines in their new cabins. Just as we did not believe a couple of years ago, a shower or a three-room apartment would be aboard the aircraft.
