The Duxford Town is located in Cambridgeshire, England. Its name was given to the RAF Duxford Airport, which was the base of the RAF during the Battle of Britain. Some scenes for the uniform film “Battle of Britain” were shot at this airport. In 1972, the Department of Defense of the United Kingdom decided to place historic aircraft in the hangars of this airport, creating the IWM (Imperial War Museum Duxford) (source: internet).
Every year during the summer Duxford takes place a day (Saturday / Sunday) called “Flying Legends”. The program during these days is the same. Types of aircraft involved in the tours were used in II. world war.
Before the beginning of the official part of the flight days it is possible to buy a ticket for “flight line walk” for 5 Ł and look at the aircraft close up (about 10 meters) and of course take a picture. Entry is from 09:00 to 12:30.
The Aviation Day program starts at 14:00 hrs by “spitfire” and continues with flight demonstrations of individual aircraft such as Wildcat, Bearcat, B25 Mitchell, Lightning, Messershmitt, Piper Cub, Lysander, Bouchon, B17 Sally B, accompanied by Mustangs , DC-3, Lancaster, Bleinheim, Corsair, etc. At the end of the aviation day is the “Balbo” scroll, most of which will be attended by all the aircraft that took part in the tour. The end of the day is 17:30.
After the program organizers will allow a picture to departing aircraft, but at 19:00 hours you are politely and gently asked to leave.
During the days of the day, various accompanying events are also taking place:
Briefing for bomber crews before the raid on Germany – entrance to the briefing is free of charge, the times of the proceedings are shown in the room where the briefing takes place, the voluntary contribution is appreciated, Spitfire photo shooting for about 20 lb, RC model show, signature events, Laurel and Hardy in original Ford-T (Tin Lizzi), WWII songs, outdoor expositions like V1 … Sightseeing flights.
It is also possible to look at:
– individual expositions / museums, eg: land warfare – tanks, guns, technology, American aircraft, B52, U2, F111, B29, SR71 Black Bird, B25 Mitchel and many others
Details about individual exposures are provided on the Internet. Just enter IWM. Accompanying flights are free for visitors to the airline, except for open air traffic, which can be viewed from inside but for a fee.
Beneath the wings of exposed aircraft is a pleasant hood, if the sun shines or you can find shelter and rain.
Of course there are refreshment stalls. I listed the prices in the cost report. I recommend buying Cider instead of beer. Prices are the same, Cider will refresh you more.
Transportation is free on Saturdays and Sundays and is secured by a shuttle bus, from the Railway Station – Cambridge to Duxford Airport and back. It should be remembered that the shuttle bus usually leaves when it is full. The shuttle bus can only sit, it is not allowed to stand. In the morning it takes about 1/2 hour to fill the bus. Just after the end of the day, the bus shuttle bus is long enough and this year the shuttle bus time was about 1 hour. I estimate that 3 “max” 4 buses have been “turned”.
It is also possible to drive to Whittlesford Parkway, about 30-40 minutes walk from IWM and then Cambridge. Tickets can be bought in the vending machine on the station, but do not forget that trains are also in the opposite direction. The ticket also serves to let you drive out of the station in Cambridge. I still have not lost him, so I do not know what would happen in this case. This year (on Saturday) there were really many visitors. If you want to find a good place for your needs (photography, video, or just watching) you need to get in touch with someone who knows it. Good places are already marked as busy early in the morning (about 08:00 local time). It is good to use someone who comes in before 8:00 am to lay down your folding chair in a good place and you will be well in the room and you will be taken care of. I have taken advantage of the fervor of our colleagues, for which I am extremely grateful to them.
Air tickets can be ordered via the internet. You avoid a long wait for them to buy when entering the IWM.

V sobotu a v nedeľu je potrebné počítať s dopravnými zápchami na cestách.
Ubytovanie v Cambridge odporúčam vybaviť aj 1/2 roka skôr. Podľa domácich sú to najvyťaženejšie dni.
On Saturdays and Sundays, traffic jams are to be counted on the road.
I recommend lodging in Cambridge 1/2 years earlier. According to the home, it is the busiest day.
Get a look at the pages to avoid the delay and panic.
The weather is variable, so I recommend a quality jacket resistant to unpleasant dense drizzle and in the case of rain, good quality raincoat. The headgear is also suitable for rain and sun. Shoes durable and tested, you will be on your feet for more than 12 hours.
Recorded videos – video, if you shoot and photo, if you are taking pictures.
– 487 video clips (sequences)
– 63:34 min. the total duration of the recording
– 1920×1080 resolution
– 50 fps
– 23.0 GB size
If you can manually set up your camera so I recommend manual focusing, the camera does not always try to find the subject to focus on. I was able to turn off image stabilization when recording aircraft flying.
The total processing time (sorting, picking, trimming, transitions, subtitling, converting ….) took about 4 months last year. The colleague shot about 3000 shots. Recommended optics – min. focal length 300mm. The shooting conditions are better in the mornings with regard to the runway used (sun).
